After studying Drama and Theatre Arts at Birmingham University Annie trained at Drama Centre London. She began her career as an actor, playing a wide variety of roles, from Shakespeare to musicals and pantomime, in regional repertory theatres for ten years. Work in London included seasons at the Old Vic, the Young Vic and new writing as well as TV and radio work.   

Her teaching and directing career began at Rose Bruford College and she continued to work in drama schools across the UK before becoming the Course Director for BA Hons Acting at Drama Centre. After retiring she continued to teach and direct there and was also part of the core Acting Team at RADA2012- 22. Public productions included: Fathers and Sons; Measure for Measure; All’s Well That Ends Well; Mary Stuart; A Laughing Matter; Wild Oats; Richard III; A Winter’s Tale; Love For Love; Strange Orchestra; Mother Courage and Her Children; Macbeth; The Seagull; The Way Of The World. 

She was visiting professor at Carnegie Mellon School of Drama where she directed The Rivals, and from 2013 - 16 was part of the outreach team for the RSC’s “Dream 16”. 

Her book Shakespeare and Stanislavski was published by Bloomsbury as part of the Arden Performance Series in 2024. Other publications include Successful Auditions  anda chapter in Approaches to Actor Training - “Why all those words?” 

Annie co-founded the JBAT Theatre Studio for professional actors in 2022. She continues as a mentor/tutor for Open Door.
