London Theatre Programme
A semester-long study abroad conservatory programme with both Acting and Directing tracks, immersing students in the rigorous theatre training of British and European drama schools and working with texts from classical to contemporary. Aimed at talented and committed undergraduates from American and international colleges and universities, and taught by an internationally acclaimed faculty, the intensive programme includes around 30 hours a week of small-group instruction, tutorials, theatre trips, and masterclasses with leading actors and theatre-makers, and affords the opportunity to experience in depth the cultural riches of one of the world’s great theatre cities.
Midsummer in Oxford Programme
An intensive, four-week advanced-level conservatory acting programme focusing on Shakespeare and classical drama, hosted by Oxford University’s beautiful and historic Magdalen College, now in its 42nd year. The programme is open to actors over age 18 at both undergraduate and graduate levels as well as professional actors, and includes around 30 hours a week of small-group instruction, theatre trips and masterclasses. The internationally-acclaimed faculty consists of leading British, European and American teaching artists and theatre-makers.
Black British Theatre & Performance Programme
Explore the social, cultural, intellectual and political developments that have come to define the theory, practice and aesthetics of Black British theatre and its practitioners. Based at BADA’s home in London’s Camden Town, you’ll work with key texts that dramatise the Black British experience and identify their dramaturgical and aesthetic underpinnings. Participants will visit historic and cultural sites, theatres and performances to support their understanding of the Black British theatre ecology, along with taking part in workshops, masterclasses and conversations with leading writers, actors, and directors.
Greek Theatre Programme
Based in London, Athens, Delphi, Epidaurus and Oxford, explore the performance and reception of ancient Greek drama from antiquity to the present day through both practical and contextual classes. You’ll investigate the cultural, social and political context of ancient Athens, and the many meanings of Greek drama today. Participants will spend the first ten days of the programme at BADA’s home in London, followed by ten days in Greece and returning to the UK for a week’s residency in Oxford, working with leading British and European teaching artists and theatre-makers throughout.
Spanish Theatre Programme
Based for two weeks at BADA’s home in London, followed by two weeks in Spain, immerse yourself in the rich history and contemporary practice of Hispanic classical theatre from the Golden Age to Lorca. Visiting key cultural sites, including Seville, Granada and Almagro, home to the International Classical Theatre Festival, and iconic landmarks such as Granada’s Alhambra, the Huerta de San Vicente, Seville’s Plaza de España, and the 400-year-old Corral de Comedias of Almagro, participants will attend performances and work with leading theatre professionals in both the UK and Spain.
Midsummer Conservatory Programme
A three-week summer conservatory programme focusing on Shakespeare, for committed students aged 16–18, hosted by Oxford University’s St Hilda’s College. Immerse yourself in Shakespeare’s drama through daily acting, voice, and movement classes, alongside cultural studies focused on the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras. Students participate in masterclasses including physical theatre and stage combat, and excursions to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London and the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon.
