Edward studied Politics and History at University before being trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and has over 20 years of experience as an actor in theatre, television and film. He has played leading parts on stage for the Royal Shakespeare Company and National Theatre and has toured the world as part of the Bridge Project Shakespeare plays directed by Sam Mendes. He most recently played Thomas Cromwell in A Man For All Seasons in the West End and has just finished season 3 of SAS Rogue Heroes for BBC.
Despite recently doing more screen work, Edward’s first and greatest love is Shakespeare. He grew up 20 minutes from Stratford Upon Avon, saw his first play there, and has been fortunate to play Hamlet, Berowne, and Benedick there. Since 2022 he has worked with leading practitioners to examine and nurture a fresh way of opening up the text of Shakespeare to new generations, utilising established techniques and creating new ones too. These practices have been successfully used at the RSC and drama schools and schools throughout the country and Edward is passionate about making Shakespeare a tool for unlocking the strongest artistry possible within the individual.
