Emmy-Award Winning Casting Director Linda Lowy will talk with the BADA Community about how to work with casting directors, craft, and getting the job.
Linda Lowy is currently casting the new spin off of Grey’s Anatomy set in Texas. She recently concluded casting the last two seasons of HACKS and the limited series IMPERFECT WOMEN with her new company Backyard Casting and partner Morgan Smith. Prior to that she was the Executive Vice President of Casting for HBO MAX, TNT, TBS and TRU TV. Linda was the Casting Consultant on all new dramas at TNT from 2016-2020 which included SNOWPIERCER, CLAWS, GOOD BEHAVIOR and ANIMAL KINGDOM.
Linda’s collaboration with Shonda Rhimes spanned 17 years. Her Shondaland shows included GREY’S ANATOMY, SCANDAL, HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, FOR THE PEOPLE, PRIVATE PRACTICE and STATION 19. Concurrently, some highlights were 6 seasons of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS for NBC, both seasons of DIRTY JOHN for Bravo/USA and INVENTING ANNA for Netflix.
A few highlights from her past include feature films LONE SURVIVOR, HAPPY ENDINGS, MYSTERY ALASKA, UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN, BLINK, WILD THINGS, HBO’S CONSPIRACY and Showtime’s BASTARD OUT OF CAROLINA. In 2013, the Casting Society of America honored Linda with the prestigious Hoyt Bowers achievement award. She has 11 Emmy nominations with 3 wins and 10 Artios nominations winning 5 times.
A native New Yorker, Linda graduated from Northwestern University and received a Masters degree from Durham University in England. She worked extensively in Chicago theatre before returning to NY to spearhead a program for the Theatre Development Fund making Broadway accessible to the disabled. She brought the first sign language interpreters to Broadway in 1980. Linda started her casting career in 1987 when Disney opened its first feature film casting office.
