UK PREMIERE OF CHADWICK BOSEMAN (MIO ’98)’S “DEEP AZURE” AT SHAKESPEARE’S GLOBE IN 2026

Last week, Shakespeare’s Globe announced that the UK premiere of BADA alum (MIO ’98) Chadwick Boseman’s play Deep Azure will run at the Globe’s Sam Wanamaker Playhouse next year (7 February – 11 April; Public Booking opens 30 September).

As part of the research and development process for the upcoming production, we partnered with Shakespeare’s Globe and helped arrange for the twelve MIO 2025 participants from Howard University to spend four days in London working with “Deep Azure” director Tristan Fynn-Aiduenu (who has directed for the London Theatre Program and led masterclasses for Midsummer in Oxford) and the production team.

These MIO alums had the opportunity to work in Shakespeare’s Globe Education and Rehearsal Studios and onstage at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, exploring world building, storytelling, movement, beatboxing, African Voice, and sharing their experiences living and studying at an HBCU.

The “Deep Azure” Creative team at the workshop included:

Tristan Fynn-Aiduenu – Director
Somebody Jones – Dramaturg
John Pfumojena – Co-Composer
Conrad Murray – Co-Composer
Tanaka Bingwa – Movement Director

There’s more to come with this partnership around “Deep Azure” so watch this space in the coming weeks!
